At Citroën we have many vehicles that could compete for 'best family car' – in fact, several have already won such a prize, including Top Gear’s Family Car of the Year 2011 and Diesel Magazine’s Large Car of the Year 2012, both awarded to DS5!
On this page, we'll look at Citroëns of several sizes, including our best small family cars. However, Citroën MPVs make excellent large family cars - if you have more than three children or need to carry a large amount of gear, check out our people carriers section as well!
A family has perhaps the largest effect on the car you choose and the way you drive - a good family car must be capable of carrying at least three people, plus luggage, on journeys that might be anything from a supermarket run to a driving holiday. You'll need to consider the size of the boot (especially for prams) and ensure that the back seats are accessible so that you can reach your child easily. Young children will need safety seats and your new family car will have to fit them correctly - on new cars, this is no problem, but you'll need to check used cars for compliance. That said, our cars make some of the best used family cars as well!
As your children grow, the number of trips you make will only increase. You may need to find the most economical family car you can, so you may want to pay particular attention to the fuel consumption numbers. Citroën offer both diesel and petrol options on many models, for economical family cars to suit all drivers.
You will need to carefully research your family car; we recommend downloading brochures and studying them. Also, don't buy before taking it for a test drive; you can book to test drive Citroëns from the links above.
