The annual What Car? JD Power vehicle ownership satisfaction survey provides a tough test for every car manufacturer in the UK. Once a year, real-life owners are invited to assess what it’s like to run their chosen car, awarding marks for everything from style and comfort to reliability and dealer service.
Given the revealing nature of the survey, we’re positively beaming with pride at the results achieved by our the smallest of our DS cars, in its first ever appearance in the study. DS3 romped home with first place among superminis in the 2013 league table, together with an impressive fourth place overall out of the 116 different cars of all shapes and sizes assessed this year.
DS3’s superb performance came in the face of very stiff competition. Our premium small car ranked ahead of last year’s winning supermini, the Honda Jazz, despite that car achieving a better score than previously. Other notable supermini options on the list – such as Mini – also improved over the past 12 months, but not by a big enough margin to beat DS3 or to stay in the top half of the table.
Chas Hallett, Editor-in-chief of What Car?, said fourth place overall was a great achievement for Citroën. “The best-selling DS3 supermini proved to be a joy to own with its funky styling and low running costs,” he added.
Linda Jackson, Citroën’s managing director in the UK, said: “The JD Power survey ranks the views of real car owners so this is very meaningful recognition for a model that continues to go from strength to strength and is obviously rewarding drivers with an outstanding ownership experience.”
What Car? reveals that owners gave DS3 positive marks virtually across the board, beating all rivals across two thirds of the survey’s categories. The distinctive DS3 gained its highest score for visual appeal, while quality, comfort and enjoyable performance all played a part in creating a rewarding ownership experience.
Citroën dealers also got plenty of positive feedback too with praise for their clean premises and all-round professionalism.
And finally, we’re very happy to hear that DS3 owners said they enjoyed the lowest fuel bills and running costs in the supermini class. These are arguably the two most important results for DS3 in 2013, at a time when value for money counts for so much.
