UPDATE: Crowdsourced Citroën C1 Connexion revealed on Facebook!

Citroën UK and Facebook have joined forces for a very special design-a-car project – a crowd-sourced New Citroën C1, the popular city car. A special edition New Citroën C1 Connexion will be designed by members of the public via the Citroën Facebook page. This exciting use of social media will result in the first production car in the UK created as part of a direct partnership between an automaker and a social networking site.

The configuration process means Facebook fans will choose the features they want on the car and the most popular variant will go into production with a competition to win the first Citroën C1 Connexion models. The project has the strapline of ‘You like it. We make it.’ and it will take place on a specially created app on Citroën UK’s official Facebook page www.facebook.com/citroenuk. The car design process is open until 30 April.

Six configuration elements are featured on the app so users can choose the number of doors, interior and exterior colours, accessories such as Bluetooth and Sat Nav, and options such as alloy wheels. The Facebook car design project aims to add some creative new touches to an already appealing city car which benefits from frugal fuel economy of up to 65.7mpg, nimble urban handling and low CO2 emissions. More than 80,000 have been sold in the UK since its 2005 launch.

Meanwhile, Facebook users can try out a customised experience which pulls in a selection of their photos to decorate the digital environment of the configurator.

Melina Kacherou-Carage, Head of Digital Marketing at Citroën UK, said: ‘This is such a significant project for Citroën, as well as the whole automotive industry, collaborating with Facebook to use their platform in this way. With a touch of ‘CréativeTechnologie’, we are taking the choices of many to create a car for everyone. This is crowdsourcing in action. The C1 Connexion will be a car created for the Facebook generation, by the Facebook generation.’

Once a design has been finalised, the winning configuration of the C1 Connexion will go into production and is expected to be on sale later this year!
